フランス, 18世紀に活躍した染職人,　ANTOINE JANOTとPAUL GOUT、２人が創り出したフランス、ヨーロッパはじめ世界各地から輸入された天然染料を駆使して、彼らそれぞれの染色方法と具体的な材料と使用量の記録です。

そして、現代の測色分析値、実際に染色して流通した布の染見本と再現した染色布を比較、それぞれの色について研究した内容をまとめた本です。

日本は江戸時代中期、享保年間１７１６〜１７３６年の染色材料を記録した『式内染鑑』、徳川幕府の元で染めた日本の職人の記録と並べてみると、それぞれの特徴、考え方の違いが見えてくる興味深い内容です。（染料植物譜p541-560)

 

This book records the dyeing methods, specific materials, and amounts used by Antoine Janot and Paul Gout, two dyers active in 18th century France, who made use of natural dyes imported from France, Europe, and around the world.

The book also compares modern colorimetric analysis values, dyed samples of actual dyed and distributed fabrics with reproduced dyed fabrics, and compiles research on each color.

When compared with the Shikinai Somekagami, which records dyeing materials used in Japan from 1716 to 1736 during the Kyoho era in the mid-Edo period, and the records of Japanese artisans who dyed under the Tokugawa shogunate, the book makes for an intriguing look at the differences in their respective characteristics and ways of thinking.(Senryo-Shokubutsufu p541-560)
